Hello,

Welcome to The Global Humanitarian. Here, I post career advice for aspiring humanitarian aid workers, including how to get a job at the UN and insights on pressing human rights issues.

When I started my career, there wasn’t a lot of information on where to find international NGO jobs, what competency-based interviewing was, or how to prepare my resume for humanitarian aid roles. Now, after surviving hundreds of Inspira applications, countless interviews, and working for the UN as a P3 staff member, I can offer insights to help you navigate this journey more effectively.

Breaking into humanitarian aid isn’t just about landing a job, it’s about being prepared for the realities of the field. My first month on the job involved an unexpected evacuation, with long days of aerial bombardments and gunfire tearing through the walls of my apartment. That experience, and many others since, have shaped my approach to this work. Through this blog, I share the lessons I wish I had known, whether it’s getting hired, staying safe in conflict zones, or understanding the bigger picture of human rights.

If you’re looking to build a career in humanitarian aid and gain firsthand insights into the field, you’re in the right place.
